At the end of July we were invited to join Mike on his property for a weekend camp-out. I'd never been to up to see it in the 4 years he's had it, and now he's thinking of selling it next year. Anyone want 5 acres on a beautiful river? And it was beautiful. The property had been cleared at one point, so there was an ongoing war with the blackberry bushes and cottonwoods, but there was plenty of room for the tents, a camp kitchen, and a campfire near the river. And I was very grateful to Mike for renting the Porta-Potties for the weekend. I'm not really that great at the "squat uphill" pose to miss your shoes in the middle of the night.
Some of the usual suspects were there. John-John, Wade, Scott and Nancy (the honeymooners), Liz, Dan, and of course Mike. And there were a few new faces to me, nice people to hang w/ around a campfire.
On Saturday, we took a curvy 2 hour drive up to see the Lower and Middle Lewis River Falls. The falls were fantastic and the scenery was great, but we ran out of time to visit the Upper Falls. There was a bit of a hike involved and by then it was after 5pm and we still had to drive back to camp and cook.
We're planning on doing this again for Labor Day weekend if we can get enough people together to make renting the porta-potties worth-while. Maybe this time we'll check out the golf course and the horse camping facilities for possible future use.
