We found out later that the defendant had been sentenced for the mandatory 70 months for the 2nd degree assault charges.
These pictures were sent to us by the DA's office.

Months later I would be searching for our game "Spite and Malice".... and here it is, scattered all over the ground. The "debris field," as the sheriff department called it, was quite large, our belongings shattered and scattered for at least 50 yards.

In the trauma room and months afterwards I got the question "were you wearing your seatbelt?" I had begun to have my own doubts based on how smashed up I was. However, the rescue team had to cut me out of the seat belt, and the deputy testified to that effect. It was a relief to have that doubt erased.
Here is the back window that Mel and Sam crawled through to get out. Imagine trying to do that while dazed and beat up.

When the car rolled, it bounced off this tree, leaving an impact mark in the bark from the 4Runner's rims. You can find our crash site by finding this tree just before getting into Sisters, Oregon. The vinyl fence is no longer there, probably because we trashed so much of it.

The Toyota is completely destroyed.

Impact zone on our car, showing he rammed us really hard off center, which is why we ended up rolling.
Mr. Defendant's car. There was no way to tell exactly how fast the guy was going, but the Judge proposed he was going 90-100 miles an hour to do this kind of damage to his own car.
This is the schematic of the crash. They measured and diagrammed everything.

You can find the site because of the shopping center in the background. It's just past the McDonald's on the right.
